Geofredo Casares Obituary

Our beloved Geofredo Casares, 85, passed away to be with the Lord, Friday, February 9, 2018 at McAllen Nursing Center. Mr. Casares was born November 8, 1932 to Modesto & Maria De Jesus Cazares in Weslaco, TX. He was a hard-working gentleman always dressed presentably in his button-down shirts and suit pants. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953 through 1955, “Korea” and was honorably discharged. Geofredo devoted himself to providing for his family by working for the Texas Alcoholic & Beverage Commission (TABC) for 20 years. He was happily retired for the last 23 years. He was a well know Barber at “Casares Barber Shop”. Above all else he was a dedicated Catholic and family man fulfilling his wedding vows to his wife Alicia of 61 years, raising their 4 children and creating loving memories with his many grandchildren. Geofredo lived life well and had many hobbies throughout his youth including playing pool, getting foot loose on the dance floor, passing time at the casino slot machines and especially traveling. In his final years he enjoyed spending his days at his home and always had a smile on his face when surrounded by his loved ones, they did call him “Smiley”. He will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Modesto & Maria de Jesus Cazares (a well know Weslaco Pioneer Family); 4 brothers, Candelario Casarez, Leonzo Casarez, Modesto Casarez, Jr., Sacramento Casarez, & 2 sisters, Juanita Moreno & Teodora Villarreal. Mr. Casares is survived by his wife, Alicia Casares of Weslaco, TX; 2 sons, Geofredo Casares, Jr., Raul Casares (Estela), both of Weslaco, TX; 2 daughters, Leticia Gamboa (Armando) of McAllen, TX, Alicia Cardenas (Larry) of Weslaco, TX; & 3 sisters, Maria Del Refugio Aguirre, Dora Azoca, both of Weslaco, TX & Carolina Polanco of Kerman, CA. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren & 1 great-great-grandson. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2018 at Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco – Chapel of The Angels with a 7:00 p.m. rosary. A Funeral Mass Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. The family will have a private burial service at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Geofredo Casares III, Jesus Casares, Armando Gamboa III, Lazaro C. Cardenas, Raul Angel Casares & E.J. Reyes. Arrangements are under the direction of Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco, Inc., 2602 N. Texas Ave., Weslaco, TX (956) 969-1461.
