Our History

With a humble and sincere heart, I, George Guerra, and my beloved late wife, Yolanda Guerra, announce the closing of Guerra Funeral Home effective January 1, 2024.  My beloved late wife Yolanda Guerra and I started Guerra Funeral Home in February of 1984 serving our families with love and gratitude for 40 years. In Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3, Verse 1, the word of God states “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the Heavens.” My season has come upon me and therefore the time has come for me to retire. With gratitude in my heart, I feel honored to have served Weslaco residents and the surrounding communities. We could not have served this long without your support and faithfulness.  During these 40 years, we have striven to be a supportive resource to our grieving families and friends during the most difficult time in their lives, that is the death of a loved one. We are truly honored that you entrusted us with the care of your loved one! The friendships and relationships we established throughout all these years will be cherished forever. We also thank our dedicated staff who have worked for Guerra Funeral Home over the years.  With a heart of appreciation, thankfulness, and love we say farewell to all who stood by our business during these wonderful God-given years. Should you need to speak with us please come by our office.

A BIG HEARTFELT THANK YOU!

Farewell and God Bless,

George, Yolanda & Family

1976, George Guerra moved to Houston, Texas to begin his schooling at Commonwealth College of Sciences. While attending Commonwealth College of Sciences, George Guerra was employed at Earthman's Funeral Home in Houston, Texas. He graduated one year later on the Dean's List and earned his funeral directors license. In 1979 he earned his embalming license. In 1980 he and his wife Yolanda moved back to the Rio Grande Valley. In 1983 the construction of Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco, Inc. began. We have since then been overwhelmed by the trust and support our community has shown since opening in 1984. We will continue our tradition of excellent service and providing the families we serve with dignity and respect.
