WESLACO, TX - Celia G. Vega, 84, joined God and our daddy, Candelario “Larry” Vega, Sr., in heaven, on Friday, October 9, 2020, surrounded by us, her children and her sister. Mom was born in San Antonio, Texas, on January 26, 1936. While working at the Cortez Hotel, she met and married the love of her life, Candelario “Larry” Vega Sr., on March 21, 1958. Mom worked from a very young age, to contribute to her family, and continued to work throughout her life at Dickies, Haggar and Hidalgo County Head Start. Even though Mom worked outside the home, her most important and rewarding contributions were her devotion as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, comadre, friend, and Catholic parishioner. She attended all our activities and it brought her much joy to cheer her children, grandchildren, and the Weslaco Panthers on. Celia G. Vega is preceded in death by our daddy and her husband of 52 years, Candelario “Larry” Vega Sr., our grandparents, Gustavo and María de Jesús E. Flores, Trinidad Mendoza, and by our sisters, Guadalupe and Isabel Vega. Mom is survived by us, her children, Celia V. Lopez (Alvaro Sr.), Candelario Vega Jr., Belinda Vega-Cuellar (Carlos) all of Weslaco, Tx., Paula V. Garcia (Manuel B., Jr.) of Buda, Tx., Lupita V. Toscano (Romulo) of Progreso, Tx., Sylvia Vega-Gonzalez (Jose G.) of McAllen, Tx., Roberto Vega Sr. (Melissa) of Edinburg, Tx., María de Jesús Ramirez of Palmview, Tx., 29 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and her sister, Petra Ramirez of Palmview, Tx. We would like to thank Rolando Longoria, P.A., from RGV Adult & Internal Medicine of Weslaco, CIMA Hospice and all those who assisted us with Mom’s dementia condition, as well as a special appreciation to Father Alejandro Flores, of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Harlingen, Tx., for Mom’s service. Mom’s services are entrusted to Guerra Funeral Home, in Weslaco, Tx. Celia G. Vega will be greatly missed but her contributions and memories will continue through all those who knew and loved her.
