Juan Garcia, Sr. Obituary

Weslaco, TX – Juan Oscar Garcia, Sr., 83, passed away to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at his residence.  Mr. Garcia was born August 6, 1937, to David & Victoria Garcia in Weslaco, TX.  He proudly served his country having enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. from 1955 to 1958 and the Texas Army National Guard from 1958 to 1997, where he later retired as SFC (E7).  Mr. Garcia was an original member of the (Delta Devils) Co. D 3/141 Infantry of Mercedes, TX, whose unit was activated in 1960.  He was awarded the following awards and decorations:

• ARMY OVERSEAS TRAINING RIBBON (TXARNG—GERMANY)

• TEXAS OUTSTANDING SERVICE MEDAL

• TEXAS MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL

• TEXAS FAITHFUL SERVICE MEDAL

• PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION

• STATE OF TEXAS JOINT MERITORIOUS UNIT AWARD

He is preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, David Garcia, Jr.; 2 sisters, Leonilla Garcia, Victoria Garcia; 1 grandson, Christopher Omar Rico; & 1 great-granddaughter, Jalen Faith Serrano.  Mr. Garcia is survived by his wife, Ester Garcia of Weslaco, TX 4 sons, Juan O. Garcia, Jr. (Juanita Villarreal) of San Antonio, TX, Jaime Garcia (Susan), Rolando Garcia (Diana Salce), Roberto Garcia (Adrianna), all of Weslaco, TX; 3 daughters, Gloria De Leon (Juan Angel) of Missouri City, TX, Ofelia Serrano (Juan Jose, Sr.), Diana Rico (Carlos), both of Weslaco, TX 1 brother, Noe Garcia of Weslaco, TX & 1 sister, Maria Pinales of California.  Also surviving are 25 grandchildren & 28 great-grandchildren.  Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2021, at Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco – Chapel of the Heavens, with a 6:00 p.m. rosary.  Funeral service will be 9:30 a.m., Saturday, June 26, 2021, at St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Edcouch.  Celebrant will be Rev. Pat Seitz.  Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Military auspices will be under the direction of Sgt. Benito Alaniz, V.F.W. Post # 7473, of Elsa, TX. Pallbearers will be Juan Jose Serrano, Jr., Moises Serrano II, Eric James Garcia, Joshua Rico, David Garcia, & Dylan Garcia.  Honorary pallbearers will be Abraham Flores, Kelo Ramirez, Manuel Garcia, Alfonso Perez, J.O. Martinez,Vicente Salas, Samuel Garcia, Oscar Garcia & Juan Garcia.  Arrangements are under the direction of Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco, Inc., 2602 N. Texas Ave., Weslaco, TX (956) 969-1461.
