Manuel Garza Obituary

Weslaco, Texas - On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, Manuel R. Garza, went to be with the Lord, at the age of 97.

Manuel was born on March 3, 1925, in General Bravo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to the late Mauricio Garza and Cesaria Ramirez. He grew up on his father’s ranch and helped his family with farming and livestock. On September 25, 1949, Manuel married the love of his life, Noelia Hernandez Garza. In 1965, Manuel and Noelia immigrated to the United States.

Manuel worked at several companies including B. Smith Packing Shed in Munday, TX, Rio Grande Valley Sugar Growers, Inc. of Santa Rosa, Mercedes Boot Company, and with the Senior Companion Program. He was a loyal and dedicated hard worker, always providing for his family.

Manuel R. Garza was blessed with many talents. At the young age of 10, he learned to play a variety of musical instruments, such as the harmonica, guitar, and the accordion. A love and talent which he treasured until his final days. Even at the late age of 97, Manuel could be heard playing the harmonica. Manuel was also blessed with the gift of composing songs and singing. In his younger years, he sang first lead and/or back-up vocals for the Mexican Norteno duo, Los Donnenos, the Mexican Norteno band, Los Alegres de Teran, and the late Cornelio Reyna. Manuel enjoyed singing rancheras and corridos. “La Palomita”, “Indita Mia”, “Corazon Solido, and “Una Noche Me Embriague” were amongst his favorite songs. Manuel and his wife, Noelia, enjoyed dancing. They always looked forward to attending their family and friend’s weddings and quinceaneras. They were known for dancing boleros, polkas, redoyas, and huapangos, but their most memorable times were dancing at their granddaughters’ quinceaneras.

Although Manuel suffered from Alzheimer’s late in his life, his love for his wife and family remained constant and strong. Manuel will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a doting husband, father, and grandfather. A man of faith who was kind, patient, gentle, and loving to all.

Manuel R. Garza is preceded in death by his wife, Noelia H. “Nena” Garza and his son, Joel Manuel Garza, and his granddaughters, JoAnne Garza, and Crystal Garza. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Hector (Rosa) Garza, Mauricio (Cindy) Garza, of Weslaco, TX; Reynol (Corina) Garza of Harlingen, TX, Angel Javier (Margaret) Garza of New Braunfels, TX, and his daughter-in-law, Juanita Garza of Edinburg, TX.; and his grandchildren Jonathan A.
