Maria Del Refugio Aguilar

Weslaco, TX-Maria Del Refugio Aguilar, left this earthly realm on Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Knapp Medical Center after a long battle with a number of critical illnesses. She was 71 years old when she joined the Lord. Mrs. Aguilar was born to Andres and Guadalupe Vega, in Elmore, Ohio. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Aurelia Aguilar, and her brother Adolpho Vega. Mrs. Aguilar is survived by her daughter Lisa Marie Aguilar, of Weslaco, TX; her son, Robert Andrew Aguilar, of Weslaco, TX; and her sister Maria De Anda, of Mercedes, TX. Mrs. Aguilar spent her life serving others through a number of altruistic endeavors. She was a nurse for over 40 years, working at Knapp Medical Center for nearly 30 years; she volunteered with an international free clinic, visiting and treating disadvantaged patients in Mexico; religiously counseled inmates; protested for migrant and Chicano rights; volunteered at her church gift shop; and taught catechism classes at St. Pius X Catholic church. It would be wrong to say that Mrs. Aguilar lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Mrs. Aguilar stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Mrs. Aguilar. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight. She is now at peace. Visitation will begin 9:00 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2020, at Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco – Chapel of The Angels, the rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a 2:00 p.m. funeral service at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Andrew Aguilar, Jose Alberto Rodriguez, Javier Alberto Longoria, Javier Alberto Longoria II, Julian Andres Longoria and Pedro De Anda, Jr. Arrangements are under the direction of Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco, Inc., 2602 N.
