Weslaco, TX – Matthew Morrissey Hernandez, 16, passed away to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Knapp Medical Center. He was born September 1, 2005, in Weslaco, TX, to Jose, Jr. & Jasmina Hernandez. Matthew was currently a junior attending Weslaco High School. He enjoyed spending his time playing video games, listening to music, skateboarding, basketball, and playing with is pets, Charley and Goosey. Matthew took a special interest in writing and was well-known as an excellent writer. One of his greatest achievements was acquiring his black belt in Mixed Martial Arts. In his younger years, Matthew was a member of Troop 100 of Weslaco, TX. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Rogelio Olguin; maternal great-grandfather, Adolfo Padilla & maternal great-grandparents, Reynaldo & Susana Olguin. Matthew is survived by his parents, Jose, Jr. & Jasmina Hernandez of Weslaco, TX; maternal grandmother, Neva Olguin (Juan Torres) of Weslaco, TX; paternal grandparents, Jose & Mary Hernandez of Weslaco, TX; maternal great-grandmother, Frances Padilla of Weslaco, TX; 2 aunts, Jackie Olguin (Roland Martinez) of Corpus Christi, TX, Gina Huerta of Weslaco, TX; & 2 uncles, Roy Olguin & Michael Hernandez, both of Weslaco, TX. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2022, with a 6:00 p.m. rosary at Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco – Chapel of The Heavens. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
