Noelia "Nena" Garza

Weslaco, TX – Noelia “Nena” Garza passed away peacefully at the age of 93 after a brief illness.  Noelia H. Garza was born on June 7, 1928, in China Nuevo Leon Mexico, to the late Manuel & Reyes Gonzalez Hernandez.  She is preceded in death by her son, Joel Manuel Garza, and her granddaughters, JoAnne Garza and Crystal Garza.  Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Manuel R. Garza of Weslaco, TX; and her children, Hector (Rosa) Garza, Mauricio (Cindy) Garza, both of Weslaco, TX; Reynol (Corina) Garza of Harlingen, TX, Angel Javier (Margaret) Garza of New Braunfels, TX; and her daughter-in-law, Juanita Garza of Edinburg, TX.  Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jonathan A. Garza, Jenna A. Garza, Nancy Alfaro, Lucio M. Garza, Annette G. Ybarra, Jessica Alvarez, Tamar Garza, Joel Manuel Garza, Jr., Jennifer Garza, Juan J. Garza, Julio Garza, Angel Garza, Ricky Garza, Ruby Espinoza; 22 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.  On September 25, 1949, Noelia married Manuel R. Garza.  In 1965, they immigrated to the United States, later becoming a proud U.S. citizen.  During the times that a woman would stay home and tend to the home, Noelia broke the mold and demonstrated that it was possible to do both.  At the age of eight, Noelia learned how to sew on her own.  This paved the way for her career in the sewing industry.  Noelia was employed by Mercedes Boot Company, where she customized boots for prominent individuals, such as President George W. Bush (Gov.), Roberto Pulido, Cornelio Reyna, among many others.  She received her most joy when making boots for her sons and husband.  Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2021, with a 6:00 p.m. rosary at Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco – Chapel of The Heavens.  Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.  Pallbearers will be Jonathan A. Garza, Lucio Manuel Garza, Jorge Alvarez, Gerardo Hernandez, Juan J. Garza, and Ricky Garza.  Arrangements are under the direction of Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco, Inc., 2602 N.
